SARAH HAUER: Hi. I’m Sarah Hauer. SIG HAUER:
And I’m Sig Hauer, and we’re professional practitioners of traditional Chinese medicines.
SARAH HAUER: We’re here on behalf of Expert Village. SIG HAUER: And welcome to our video.
There are other things that we use–other substances such as minerals, such as gypsum.
Those types of herbs we usually put into a separate little package, have you cook longer
that longer at first, and then throw the other herbs in later. We don’t have you ingest those
types of herbs directly. We do use a few animal parts. We’re very careful about that. We will
not use anything that’s endangered. I absolutely refuse to do that for obvious reasons, but
occasionally we do use some animal parts. Anything else you can think of that we use?
I mean, I can probably go on for days with the different types of herbs that we use but
I won’t. So, that is a good overview of the different types of herbs that we use. SARAH
HAUER: So these are single herbs, and when you come in for an herbal prescription, we
use a grouping of herbs. And the formulas that were designed in Chinese herbology are
combined because of their synergistic effects; they either enhance each other’s qualities,
or if one herb happens to have a little bit of toxicity, another herb will help reduce
that toxicity. These are combinations of herbs. These ancient formulas are combinations of
herbs that were found to work really beautifully together. So they’re very balanced formulas.
This is not something that we just grabbed herbs off the shelf and put them together
in a bag for you. These are very methodical and thought-out processes to how the herbs
relate together and how they are going to apply for your conditions. Now, the beauty
of the Chinese formulas, of doing a custom formula like this were we can control the
amounts of each ingredient, is we can customize it for your pattern. If you tend to have a
little bit more heat, then, we can alter a warming formula so that it’s not going to
aggravate that. We can change the doses of the individual herbs. This is really treating
each person exactly where you are in the best way that we can. This is the way we love to
prescribe herbs because we can really give you the best formula for your condition.
